Welcome New Student, Daniel!!!!

For Phonics class, we worked on X-x- ox, fox, box, and X-ray. We also learned a new phonics rhyme.
*Once there was a little box, was a little
*Inside there fox,
*The little fox could makes such fuss,
*With a funny sound that went “ks, ks”.
*Ks.ks.ks.ks.ks…..ks”
*It was just the sound of “X”!

For social studies, we started a new unit “Feelings and Emotions”. This week, we went through adjectives like: sad, happy, sick, mad, sleepy, and thirsty. The kids especially loved the expression “hungry”.

For art and crafts class, we made “Plate Fish”. First, the kids each got a paper plate. Then, they chose their favourite color to decorate the fish. After the fish dried out, they cut an opening as its mouth and glued the tail on. Lastly, they glued the googly eyes on its face.

This week, we learned two new songs: “Eight Little Pigs” and “Let’s Makes Some Noise”


Individual comments:

Casper caught on to the idea of being “sad”. He explained it in his own words as… "if someone took yummy food from you”. Then you’ll be sad.

Jason chose yellow for his fish on Tuesday. That was unusual. I was expecting him to pick either green or blue.

Tanya bit Dora on her hand, because she said Tanya's work is messy. Dora also drew on her book.

Ellie drew on the table the other day, and told me Dora did it. I told her that if she tells lies her nose will grow longer at night. She got scared and told me the truth.

Henry and I were working on quitting the use of his security blanket passively this week. He isn’t holding his blanket in his hands all the time. I'm confident that maybe he might only need it for nappy time.

Jae and Christine had a small tiff. Christine got upset with Jae and told her that she isn’t her friend. I asked Jae what happened. She replied “Christine’s “9’s” look funny!”

Leetrue brought a waist band on Monday. He told everyone that this isn’t a watch; it’s a thing to keep mosquitoes away.

Christine’s definition for being happy is when she gets toys from Santa Claus or mom. Being sad is when nobody wants to play with her during break time.

Dora repeatedly misbehaved all week long. She pushes and bites the other kids when they disagree with her. We will work on it.

August and Jae are both so sweet. There were a few days in a row where they helped me flatten my blanket in between them. They wanted me to sleep next to them.

For Phonics class, we worked on W-w-window, wagon, wood.... We also learned a new phonics rhyme.

• I saw a worm on my window one day.
• And it seemed to be wiggling and wiggling away.
• It wiggled, then stopped, and waved “How do you do?”
• Then as it passed by, it winked at me, too.

For story time, we read “The Magic Apple”. It’s a Jewish fairy tale. Once, there were three sisters. They were pretty, clever, and brave. They also liked to go on adventures. The elder sister bought a magic spyglass, with which you can see things that are far away, even on the other side of the world. The middle sister bought a magic horse that can take you wherever you want to go in a flash. The youngest sister bought a magic apple from a farmer….. One day, the oldest sister saw a very ill prince through her spyglass. They decided to help him out……..With the help from the magic horse, they flew to the kingdom right away. ….The youngest sister reached in her pocket for her handkerchief, but instead she touched the apple. So, she tried feeding the prince a slice of the apple. After the first slice, the prince opened his eyes. After the second piece, his face had more color…….When he finished the last piece of apple, he stood up and cheered….. Then, the youngest sister got married with the prince, and they lived happily life ever after.

For math class, we continued reviewing sequences. We also made “Peanut Butter and Banana Sandwiches”. First, we took out bread. Second, we spread peanut butter on the bread. Third, we put the sliced banana pieces on the bread. Lastly, we cut the sandwiches in half.

For, art and crafts class. We made cereal necklaces. The kids had to try their best to put as many pieces of cereal through the thread. I told them that they were only allowed to eat “the twins” (two of them stuck together). I looked at them and asked them, “Why are you eating”. They all replied, “Twins!”

This week, we learned two new songs: “Octopus Garden” and “Apple and Banana”

Individual comments:

Henry was a little moody on Monday, when he first came to school. I asked him, “Am I not your good friend? “ Henry nodded his head. Then asked me, “Good friend, right?”

Casper’s new sentence of the week is “My home has….” instead of “We have ….at my house.” We will work on ‘Chinglish’ mistakes.

Jason loves to shout when he has a disagreement with someone. I asked him to face the wall after he shouted 2 times. He needs to remember to control his emotions.

Christine picked tight ribbons during motor skills class. It was difficult for her, but at least she tried hard to manage it. She worked really well all week.

Leetrue has been in “Transformer” mode all week long. During recess, he flips cars upside down just like in “Transformers.” I guess he loves them and the movie.

Dora is unbelievable. She hid under the table and kept eating cereal while we were m

aking necklaces. I had to stop her from eating them over and over again.

Tanya was well behaved this week. She earned her first sticker of this week on Tuesday.

Ellie missed Joyce a lot on Wednesday when she was not there. I comforted her a

nd napped with her on that day.

Jae chose to stay in class to do coloring during recess, instead of playing outside. I agreed with he

r; it has been too hot these past few days.

August likes Jason, but sometimes he’s too sensitive to what Jason says. Yesterday he cried, because Jason told him that he can’t be a transformer like him.

For Phonics class, we worked on V-v-vest, vegetables, valentine’s cards, and vacuum.

We also learned a new phonics rhyme.

* Veronica’s friends are coming to visit,

* She needs to do some cleaning.

* So she takes her vacuum cleaner out

* And vacuums till the evening.

* Vvvvvvvvvvvvvv

For motor skill class, we practiced how to button up, zip up, and buckle and tighten ribbons on their clothing. These tasks all look very easy for adults, but for them it was difficult. Each kid had two chances to try different tasks. We will practice more in these couple of months.

For art and crafts class, we made “Mr. Sun” paper fans. First, they got two construction papers (one yellow and one orange). Then, the kids had to fold them into fans. Then, they glued the two fans together. Lastly, they glued “Mr. Sun’s” face in the middle.

For story time, we read “Friends”. Pig, Mouse, Rooster, and Cow are good friends. They went on an adventure on a bike…… Finally, hunger hit them. They tried fishing, but their stomachs made loud noises that scared away the fish. Then, they found a cherry tree. They ate, and ate, and ate! After a long day, they needed to find shelter. Where should they stay for the night? They finally realized that “friends always stick together no matter how rough the situation is.”

This week we learned two new rhymes: “Last Laugh” and “Itchy Bitsy Spider”

Individual comments:

Henry speaks more in sentences now. He is able to express himself with sentences such as “Teacher, I’m fast right?”, “I finished my water.”, or “This is mine.” He knows a few more.

Jason cut his hair on Monday, during math class with his scissors. After this occurred, I reminded him about it every day. We don’t cut our hair with scissor in class! If you need a haircut, then go to a hair dresser. We only use scissors for paper in school.

Jae is hilarious. She told me that August isn’t her boyfriend anymore. A boy who lives by grandma’s house is now her new boyfriend. One day she was talking to Jason. She said, “Don’t you know that Terry is my boyfriend?” Terry looked confused. “Am I?”, he asked.

Christine picked tight ribbons during motor skills class. It was difficult for her, but at least she tried hard to manage it. She worked really well all week.

Leetrue likes Henry so much. Once, he even kissed Henry on the cheek when he said goodbye. I thought that that was very sweet. Leetrue is so friendly.

Ellie sometimes misses her mom. At school, she might whine and say, “Mommy… home………” Then, I know she misses her mom. She will outgrow this behavior sooner or later.

For Phonics class, we continued with T-t- tiger, turtle….from last week. Also, we worked on U-u-umbrella, unicorn, umpire, under, and upside down.
We also learned a new phonics rhyme.

*Umbrella up,
*Umbrella upside-down,
* Underneath the umbrella,
* With a little frown.
* Ugggggghh!

For motor skill class, we worked on categories including fruits and vegetables. They had to color foods in the circles. Then, they cut them out and pasted them into different shopping bags.

For Henry, Ellie, Dora and Tanya this turned out to be a difficult task.

For math class, we worked on sequences. First, you pick up your tooth brush. Second, you squeeze out some toothpaste. Third, you brush your teeth. Last, you wash out your mouth. We also practiced with other sequence cards with games.

For art and craft class, we made guitars. First, each of them got a tissue box and painted it yellow, purple, or green. Next, they had to cut rubber bands in half, and lay them flat on the box. Lastly, they had to glue them onto the box.

This week we learned two new songs: “I Love Bowling Games” and “Ha-Ha-This Way”
