Dear parents,
This is going to be my last blog before my pregnancy leave. Teacher Annie will take over the kangaroo class when I’m gone. I will surely be posting my son’s pictures as soon as I get a chance. I wish you all the best, and see you in two months.
We finally look unified in our school
uniforms for the very first time. The kids looked so cute with their uniforms, especially the younger ones. This field trip was a very unique experience for the teachers. The kids had a hand at all the activities. They learned to appreciate art features such as different angles or lighting that makes our vision of art complete different. At
the end of the visit, they made necklaces as a souvenir to bring home.
For phonics class, we worked on D-d duck, doctor, dice, and door. We also learned a new rhyme as follows:
*Downy Duck dived for his dinner.
*Downy Duck went deep, deep, deep, down.
*Poor Downy Duck dove and dove.
*So he left the other ducks and dug into the
ground.
* He dug and dug and dug till his dinner could be found.

For math class, we continuing working on “left to right” and review exercises. This concept is only easy for some kids; for others they were still a bit of confused from time to time. We will review it whenever we have another chance.
For social studies class this week, we started a new unit: “Hobbies”. What do you like to do with your free time? August likes to play with his toys in his free time. Jae and Erin like to ride their bikes in their
free time.
For motor skills class this week, we learned about symmetry. The kids
had to try drawing the other half of a wing for a butterfly and the other half of a heart shape on their own. Regardless of the sizes, some of them were able to replicate the shapes well.

Dear parents,
For phonics class, we worked on C-c- car, carrot, corn, cake, cup and counter. We also learned a new rhyme as follows:
*What’s that creeping and crawling to me?
*What’s that coming with a great big smile?
*It’s not a crab or a cat or a cow.
*It’s a c...c…c...crocodile!
For math class, we worked on “left to right”. The kids had to draw lines from the left object to the right object; they also had to color the left hand or the flower on the right.
For social studies class this week, we continued the same
topic “clothing”. We played a “what are you wearing game?” The kids had to try to pick what they were wearing from all the flash cards. By Wednesday, they had to try to tell me what they were wearing that day.
For motor skills class this week, we did something new. We played some throwing games. Young children need to develop both their large and small muscles. “Money toss” was fun for them. After setting out plastic containers on the floor, I had them stand back on the line and attempt to toss the coins into the contain
er.
For arts and crafts class, we made “Stain Glass Fish Craft”. First, we cut out the fish out of construction paper. Then, we cut out uneven shapes of different colors of glassy paper. Last, we stuck glassy paper onto the fish from the edge of the paper (we worked from inside to outside).

comments:
Casper got fussy a few times when I told him that he wouldn’t have time for play time. He said “Bad, bad, Teacher Angel.” I talked to him afterwards and told him that wasn’t nice. In fact, it was rude to say that to an adult or a teacher. He apologized to me afterwards.
Dora improved so much this week. Dora and I have bonded more this week. She isn’t used to working with a group of people yet. She is lear
ning not to be bossy, not to hit, and not to grab other people’s belongings.
Leetrue was playing a pee-pee fighting game with Jason and August. His pee flew across to August’s pants. I punished him by making him eat lunch by himself.
Jae got a little fru
strated when we were working on the arts and crafts. She kept saying “Teacher, help me; I can’t do it”. I encouraged her to glue her glassy paper on the edge of the paper. The moment she f
inished, she was so happy and she showed off her fish to her friends.
Christine was bothered by Dora this week. She couldn’t understand why Dora pinches her or touches her water bottle. I reminded her that she is a big girl; Dora is still young.

Erin was sick for the last few days. Since she returned to school, she has had a great big smile on her face all the time. Her listening skills got so much better compared with the beginning of the month. She is able to express herself in some English phrases on her own.
August was so upbeat this week. He was able to finish his tasks on time and even faster than the other kids. But, he rushed through at some points.

Jason was spacing out and was sometimes very lazy when it came to work such as coloring and writing this week. I told him if he doesn’t try harder he will become a couch potato. He re
membered that well and repeated it often.
Theresa got herself into trouble a few times this week during nap time. She was either playing or talking with her friends when she was not supposed to.
Dear parents,
We had an eventful week this week. Monday, we made sticky rice balls; Tuesday we went to see lanterns at Dr. Sun Yen-Sung Memorial Hall for Lantern Festival Day; Friday we celebrated Valentine’s Day early, so we made chocolate lollipop roses and Valentine’s Day cards.
For phonics class, we worked on B-b- bus, bib, and butterflies. We also learned phonics rhymes.
· Balls are bouncing
· Boeing, Boeing, Boeing
· Balloons are bursting
· Bang, Bang, Bang
· Bubbles are bubbling
· Bo, Bo, Bo,

For math class, we worked on “from the top to the bottom” and
“through”. We worked on more examples on the whiteboard.
The kids are learning this concept “through” by putting string through beads.
For social studies class this week, we continued the same topic “clothing”. I also introduced more new words such as jeans, sandals, running shoes, dress shoes, tank top, and sports wear.

Individual comments:
Jae only gets excited and speaks loudly when other kids are doing the same thing. I constantly remind Jason and Leetrue to speak softly or gently during class time. I also remind Jae to quiet down if she talks out loud all the time. Talking too loudly can
cause harm to your voice and you may end up sounding like a duck.
Leetrue really liked the transformer lantern we saw the other day at Dr. Sun Yen-Sat Memorial Hall. Leetrue should try harder to come to school early for the first hour, to learn new nursery songs and rhymes at the beginning of class.
Theresa is so helpful with the new students. She sometimes calms them down by holding their hand during class time. She was able to pick up new sounds of phonics “b” after a
few
repetitions.
August is able to count up to 13 now. I tried not putting him next to Jason. I guess they missed each other for a week. They couldn’t
help to have closer contact.
Christine came to school on time this week. I rewarded her with 2 stars each day. When she comes early, it makes her days so much different. She pays more attention in the morning, learns new nursery rhymes, and it’s much more easier for her to fall asleep during nap time.
Casper was very annoyed with the others, because I didn’t help him out with his lantern when he asked me to. He threw a fit at me and stomped his feet many times. The reason that I didn’t help him out right away was because he didn’t listen to me when I asked him not to put so much glue on the back.

Erin already picked up on some simple commands
such as “May I go to the bathroom, drink water, sit properly…and so on.” She also likes to share her stories with everyone about her family.
Dora’s emotions are much more under control this week, but she sometimes whines about finding T. Cheryl. She likes to draw on the white board with my markers when she gets any
chance. She has a great appetite and naps very well.
Jason was so easily disturbed by the others this week. He worries too much about the new kid, Dora. He also likes to tattletale on her.
Dear parents,
Welcome back everyone! I hope that you all had a great Chinese New Year break. The kids told me that they did all sorts of activities such as watching beautiful fireworks being set off and playing with sparkling sticks. They also v
isited their relatives.
First, I would like to introduce our two new members of the kangaroo class. Erin is a 4-year-old; Dora is 2 years and 3 months old. Erin behaved much more maturely than Dora by the second hour at school. She already made many friends. Dora is younger and is a first timer for school. She cried for a while on her first day Thursday, but she was able to stay in the classroom for a full class.

For phonics class, we reviewed the alphabet order and the phonic sounds. We started the second part of the phonics book which begins with A-a-, ax, alphabet, and apple.
For math class, we are learning prepositions: next to and between. They had to circle the duck that was not by the tree and/or draw a tree next to the house.
For arts and crafts this week we used a Valentine’s Day idea, due to Valentine’s Day coming up next week. We made “heart-people” to decorate our classroom. They practiced their scissors skills by cutting one big heart with four small heart shapes. Afterwards, they glued its arms and legs together.

For social studies class this week, we started a new unit: “clothing”. The kids already know most of the basic clothing items such as socks, a dress, and underwear. We are learning some new ones like pajamas, bathing suit, a skirt, and shorts.

comments:
Casper seems very happy about meeting Dora and Erin. He even tattle tells on them if they speak Chinese during class time.
Leetrue had a hard time while he was folding the heart’s arms and legs. He sat there for over 30 minutes without moving his fingers. I worked with him individually after class and encouraged him
to try aga
in.
Erin is doing great during the first week. She only cried less than 15 minutes on the first day of school. She likes to sing and
hang out with my girls, especially Theresa.
Jae likes to take care of Dora. She got a tissue for Dora to wipe her tears. That was such a nice gesture.
Theresa had a new hair style after the break. I caught her wetting her hair in the bathroom to make her hair look nicer.
Christine was late a couple of times this week. She missed her chances to learn new rhymes and nursing songs.
August was a bit lonely because Jason wasn’t here for a week. He did some things again to catch my attention such as hitting other kids or lying on the floor.
