Happy Chinese New Year break

Dear parents,

This week has been a busy week for us. This week we wrapped up all the subjects for this semester.

I hope that you will like the yearbooks I made for your children. If you wish to have their pictures for this semester, please bring in a USB device to school at any time during your convenience. I would be glad to load them up for you.

For math class, we worked on the last few concepts. They are “quiet”, “noisy”, “many”, and “few “.

For phonics class, we finished the last letter Z, and the related words “Z-z-zoo, zebra, zipper, zero and zigzag.

For social studies class this week, we learned more objects that are made of natural material such as cliffs, sand, hot springs and many more.

For Art and Crafts class, we made mobile Oxen. The ox is the zodiac character for this New Year. We decorated the walls with oxen in our classroom.

Lastly, I wish that you and your family have a wonderful 9 day break during the Chinese New Year break. See you again next year.

Dear parents,

After twenty minutes of zigzagging on roads on the bus, we finally got to our destination: Fu-Tian Village Garden.
Mr. Ada , our tour guide, was very friendly. He explained why native Taiwanese (aborigines) invented bamboo sticky rice and stone grilled sweet potatoes. Later on, we painted beetle magnets and made leaf printing post cards. We were all exhausted after a busy day. Next time, we should go back for different activities.

For phonics class, I continued with the letter “y” and the related words “Y-y-yarn, yawn, yo-yo, yardstick, yes, and yellow.

For math class, we worked on “top and bottom” and “soft and hard”. These two concepts seem pretty easy for them. It went very smoothly during class time. They loved the other examples that I presented on the white board.

For social studies class this week, I reviewed the four seasons and the cycle of a seed. Then, we moved on to clothing or accessories we wear for different seasons.

Individual comments:

Casper told me something the other day. Christine and Jason weren’t being good because they were putting their fingers in their mouths. I was so surprised to hear that. Casper finished all of his bamboo rice; that was the reason why he didn’t have more room for other foods that he had brought.

Jae didn’t like the weather on Tuesday when we went to YangMi Mt. She said that although the activities were fun, it was still too cold.

Leetrue had so much fun painting his beetle on Tuesday. He asked me when we can go back again. I guess he really liked this outing.

Jason had time outs a few times this week. He laughs when you ask him to take a time out. It seems like he thinks that it’s funny to be punished.

Christine misbehaved on the field trip many times. She kept wandering off, didn’t line up, and spoke in Chinese on purpose. She will lose her play time until Friday.

August was a little fuzzy this week during class time, especially in the morning. I guess maybe the cold weather affects him somehow.

Theresa didn’t like the taste of bamboo sticky rice and whined that it gave her a stomachache. But, she enjoyed making her leaf printing post card for her family!

Dear parents,

For phonics class, I continued with the letter “w”, and I started the letter X. The letter “W” is a little hard for the little ones to imitate. They thought it is like the letter “M”.

For math class, we worked on “long and short” and “high and low”. After, we practiced a few exercises on the white board. I asked them to work individually in their books. They had to draw a long string for the kite and a short string for the balloon. For another exercise, they had to circle the bird that is low on the ground and color the bird that is flying high in the tree.

For motor skills class, we practiced cutting circles with numbers on them. When they finished cutting one number, they had to glue it on the paper. The kids were supposed to cut each circle, and then put them in order. It was sort of like a box of chocolates with numbers on it.

For art and crafts class, we made “Squirrel Paintings”. This craft is unique in many ways. We used brown coffee bean powder to fill in its body and paws. The kids were so excited to glue the powder with their brushes onto its body and paws. Then came the easy parts; the arms and face.

For social studies class this week, I introduced “Things Made by Nature” and “Conditions of the Weather” They were amazed that water, sand and rocks aren’t manmade. Mother Nature creates all sorts of things on earth. We talked about “windy” and “snowy” days.

Individual comments:

Leetrue and I are working on his grammar since last week. I’m correcting him to not say “the Jason….” instead of just “Jason…….” It’s difficult for him because he is so used to say “the” in front of everything.

Jason wanted to stay in T. Cory’s class on Wednesday. I let him stay there in his class for an hour. I explained to him that in order for him to go to K2, he has to learn his ABC’s.

Casper sometimes whines that other kids are too loud or that someone shouted in his ear. In fact, he does the same thing to others. Casper loves the letter X; for him it’s like cross. He crosses things that are not wrong and puts X wherever.

Jae knows the consequences of not wearing a helmet while riding on a scooter. She looked tired these last few days because of her nose and tonsils. I hope she feels better after taking her medication.

Christine mentioned that one windy day, her balloon got blown away. She also told us that she likes snowy days. Too bad we live in Taipei.

August is capable of identifying numbers and their sequence. He is slowly working on his writing.

Theresa showed so much improvement on the scissors practice on Wednesday. She is able to cut objects that are round without making mistakes. She wasn’t the first one to finish, but she did a great job!
