Dear parents,
Welcome back everyone! I hope that you all had a great Chinese New Year break. The kids told me that they did all sorts of activities such as watching beautiful fireworks being set off and playing with sparkling sticks. They also v
isited their relatives.First, I would like to introduce our two new members of the kangaroo class. Erin is a 4-year-old; Dora is 2 years and 3 months old. Erin behaved much more maturely than Dora by the second hour at school. She already made many friends. Dora is younger and is a first timer for school. She cried for a while on her first day Thursday, but she was able to stay in the classroom for a full class.

For phonics class, we reviewed the alphabet order and the phonic sounds. We started the second part of the phonics book which begins with A-a-, ax, alphabet, and apple.
For math class, we are learning prepositions: next to and between. They had to circle the duck that was not by the tree and/or draw a tree next to the house.
For arts and crafts this week we used a Valentine’s Day idea, due to Valentine’s Day coming up next week. We made “heart-people” to decorate our classroom. They practiced their scissors skills by cutting one big heart with four small heart shapes. Afterwards, they glued its arms and legs together.

For social studies class this week, we started a new unit: “clothing”. The kids already know most of the basic clothing items such as socks, a dress, and underwear. We are learning some new ones like pajamas, bathing suit, a skirt, and shorts.

Individual
Casper seems very happy about meeting Dora and Erin. He even tattle tells on them if they speak Chinese during class time.
Leetrue had a hard time while he was folding the heart’s arms and legs. He sat there for over 30 minutes without moving his fingers. I worked with him individually after class and encouraged him
Erin is doing great during the first week. She only cried less than 15 minutes on the first day of school. She likes to sing and
Jae likes to take care of Dora. She got a tissue for Dora to wipe her tears. That was such a nice gesture.

Theresa had a new hair style after the break. I caught her wetting her hair in the bathroom to make her hair look nicer.
Christine was late a couple of times this week. She missed her chances to learn new rhymes and nursing songs.
August was a bit lonely because Jason wasn’t here for a week. He did some things again to catch my attention such as hitting other kids or lying on the floor.
