Dear parents,

For phonics class, I introduced the letter “I”, only, and the related words including: “I –i- igloo, iguana, and itch”. I felt that we had been rushing through phonic classes last month. We don’t get enough time to practice writing, or do extra activities. If we slow down the pace we will build up stronger phonics foundations, and have more fun.

For math class, I introduced them to objects with either the color white, or the shape circle. Snowmen, snowflakes, sheep, eggs and insects are white. We also had to put an “x” on the carrot that was not the same color. Tracing circles isn’t easy for the kids. We traced circles with different colors.

For arts and crafts this week, we made veggie and fruit stamps. I prepared onions, broccoli, star fruit, green pepper, bitter melon as stamps. I cut these foods in chunks for them. They got to choose any of the four colors on the plates. They were doing fine for the first picture; August started his second picture with broccoli, but then it all turned out to be a disaster. August, Rain, and Jason’s pictures all looked like typhoons.

For social studies this week, we talked about our families and homes. We received another family picture from Jason on Monday. We talked about family members and their genders. We also built our homes with blocks. Jae and Casper both live on the 9th floor; Leetrue lives on the highest floor which is the 11th… and so on. Jae asked me, “Why does Rain have only one block?” I replied, “He lives on the first floor”. Rain, Theresa, Casper, Leetrue, Christine, August … please bring a family picture next week.

This week, we also learned a few new nursery rhymes and songs. They are “Here is the Beehive”, “Nobody Likes Me”, “Here is the Church”, and “Grasshopper”

Individual comments:

Christine came to school early this week. There were two positives this week. One, she had opportunities to learn new songs and rhymes. Two, she fell asleep easily during nap time.

Rain demonstrated good behavior this week. He came to school early and enjoyed our morning activities.

Jae likes the songs we learned this week especially “Nobody Likes Me”. I always get great laughs when the kids imitate my movements. They look just too cute to watch. By the way, I love the polka dots clothes that Jae wore on Tuesday. She looked so adorable.

Casper’s gums were infected. He ate even slower and vomited a few times this week. He’s learning to trace circles, and he identifies same and different objects.

Jason was very smooth this week, except with his bathroom issue. He likes to wait till the last minute to go to the bathroom. Therefore, accidents occur here and there. He could trace circles better if he practices more.

Leetrue was on violent mode on Monday and Tuesday. He purposely hurt his friends during play time. I had to constantly remind him to treat his friends nicely.

Joyce was super needy this week for some reasons. T. Beryl and I were pushing her a little harder to speak up this week. By the way, Friday is show and tell day; please remind her to bring anything (either toys or books) to share with her friends.

Theresa loves role play during play time. She may ask Christine to be the mommy or sister; Casper or someone else pretends to be the baby. She always offers to help other kids when they ask for help.

August
was very much into doing crafts in the beginning, but then somehow he grabbed a piece of broccoli and started his typhoon. He turned his picture into the day after a typhoon. Everything was destroyed after all, or so it seemed.

Dear parents,

We finally had some nice weather this week. Thursday morning, T. Cory’s class and the kangaroos chilled out at the park. We practiced catching, throwing, and bouncing balls. These activities helped the kids develop their hand-to- eye coordination, and their motor skills as well.

For math class, I introduced them to objects with either the color pink or gray. Flamingoes, grapefruits, pigs, ballet shoes, and erasers are pink; an elephant, squirrels, rocks, mice, nails, and donkeys are gray. We also had to put an “x” on the objects that were not the same color.

For phonics class, I introduced the letters “g” and “h”, and related words including: g – “g”- goat, goose, game, garden, and guitar. There are also five words they need to know for the “h” sound. H-“h” hand, hen, horse, hose, and hammer.

As for motor skills this week, we practiced how to draw number writing from 1- 5 and tracing numbers. Numbers 2, 3, and 5 seem a little challenging for some kids.

For arts and crafts this week, we made colorful butterflies with food dye colors. It was a very simple and fun project. First, we had to fold coffee filter papers like fans. Then, we dipped them into the dye colors. Next, we have to dry the paper filters. Last, we put the pipe cleaner in the middle and tightened them.

This week, we also learned a few new nursery rhymes. They are “Little Green Frog”, “The Mosquito”, “Jimmy Crack Corn”, and “Ring A-Round the Rosy”

We also read “My Feeling Book” & “Freddie’s Spahabbtitis” this week. The kids picked up some new words that describe feelings such as lonely, scary, cranky, dress up, stand on my head….and many more. They thought it was funny if someone wants to stay in a bathtub all day long.

Individual comments:

Leetrue cried so often this week. He cries if anyone touches him or cuts in front of him. I reminded him that he should speak up for himself; he should try and not let his emotions control him. Crying can’t solve any problem. Leetrue likes art class just like the others. He said he wants to bring his butterfly home for mommy.

Joyce
enjoys morning exercises more now. She is quiet, but she participates during class time just like the other kids. I would also like to clarify my answer to a question her dad asked last Friday. In K1, teachers provide the kids with large volumes of reading. We read stories and rhymes to them frequently. By the end of the K1 year, they will be able to read words with short vowel sounds and some small words. We will have to make reading adjustments for those who are more advanced. (Example: More difficult reading books for advanced students)

Christine needs to try to go to bed earlier. She often comes to school late and loses her chances to learn new rhymes and song. Her relationship with the other kids is in progress.

Rain grasps new vocabulary words fast. He knows almost every new word that I teach. His learning behavior is fine, but he has problems with his social behavior. We are working to solve them.

Jae
picks up on wrong behavior quickly from the others. The other day, some boys were running and shouting while I went to the bathroom to check on someone who was in the bathroom for a while. She was running with them too. She played with her sandals while I was reading a story. She is usually my model student in class, but I do correct her when she is misbehaving.

Jason ate slowly many times this week. He is nosy about what the other kids are doing. He forgets to eat or chew his food. He ends up being the last one in class to finish lunch.

Theresa
imitates sounds very well. We were reading “My Feeling Book” the other day; she remembered the picture of a boy wearing a crown as “King”.

August is slowing changing his learning attitude. He now takes time to do his work instead of scribbling throughout. He now asks for clear directions, before we start a new assignment.

Casper is funny. He’s afraid to be the last one to finish his meal. Before snack time or lunch, he often asks me, “Teacher Angel. What’s for lunch?” I don’t have any other answer other than: “I don’t know.” So he sometimes guesses noodles, rice, cookies, or soup.

Happy Moon Festival Weekend

Dear parents:

What a weekend!!! Last Sunday was my big day with Harry. We were very busy since 8:00 A.M in the morning with our engagement party. I had a cat nap with a 5 kg, heavy, white wedding dress on. The reception started around 7:00 P.M. till almost 9:30 P.M. We had over 200 guests. Everyone feasted well and had a good time!

The weather was terrible on Tuesday when we left school. We got to our destination around 10 ish. Our first stop was “Yesterday World”. The kids checked out the original puppets from the old days. Some of the puppets looked truly fierce. Leetrue and Jae didn’t dare touch any of them. The Science Exhibition Center was awesome; there were 3 giant balloon beds on the floor. Everyone was jumping up and down, and it looked like everyone was a monkey flying in the air.

For math class, I introduced them to objects with either the color brown or black. Wood, dirt, camels, peanuts, footballs, and pretzels are brown; kittens, boots, tires, crows, bowling balls, and ants are black. We also had to put an “x” on the objects that were not the same color. They also learned 3 new shapes; they are circle, square, and triangle. We found different shapes everywhere. We also read a related story called “Circle Dogs”. Circle dogs live in a big, green, square house. They have triangle ears and tongues like your pink socks. When they sleep, they curl their bodies into circles.

For phonics class, I introduced the letters “e” and “f”, and related words including: e – “e”- egg, elephant, elevator, and engineer. We are a little behind on the letter “f”. There are also five words they need to know for the “f” sound. F-“f”-farm, fire, flower, fan and feet.

As for motor skills this week, we practiced how to draw sunbeam lines and tracing outlines for apples (as the pictures are shown on the side). It was very good practice for them. It was easier for me to find their strengthens and weaknesses.

This week, we also learned a few new nursery rhymes. They are “Sally Go Around the Sun”, “Drop the Handkerchief”,” Pat-E- Cake”, and “Teddy Bear”

Individual comments:

Theresa was distracted by Casper many times during class time. She had a great appetite; she often asks for a 2nd bowl of rice or extra snacks. She likes to compliment people’s attire, such as a girl has a pretty dress or skirt. I look forward to seeing her happy face every morning.

Leetrue likes to compare the number of stars that he has with the other kids. He constantly reminds me about stars. I have been correcting the ways in which he holds his pencil into position, as well as his spoon.

Joyce is improving here and there during class time. Keep it up, Joyce. I didn’t see many problems with her behavior or performance this week.

Christine took an early Moon Festival Break to visit grandma this week.

Jason has a tendency to hold his crayon sideways. He knows if he colors sideways, it takes less time to finish. I try to remind him to hold crayons just like pencils.

August has a very strong habit. He likes to sit with his head lying on the table. When he does it, the other kids sometimes copy him. However, he’s getting more confident in Phonics.
Casper likes to sneak into the bathroom to play with water after he pees. I caught him red handed many times. He is very picky with some things, in particular the ways he deals with his shoes, water bottle, or his work.

Rain likes to whine for little things. He complains that the other kids don’t share the toys with him. Then, he hugs a toy and doesn’t let go. He always wants to be the first one in line. If he is the second one, he might push others or make that person cry. I keep reminding him, August, and Leetrue. We can’t always be first; sometime number 2 or 3 is fine, too.

Jae was very curious of Leanne’s baby the other day. She is using different combinations of colors on her work. She is more mature than the other kids in many ways.

Welcome to TreeHouse Open House next Friday

Dear parents,

We had a very different Tuesday morning this week. We had nurses that came to school to check our eye vision and our hearing ability. Some of my younger kids were confused with what they were supposed to do. Again, to remind our parents, the kids should have a limited time to watch TV or play video games.

For math class, I introduced them to objects with either the color orange or purple. Fire and gold fish are orange; grapes, egg plants, and purple crayons are purple. We also had to put an “x” on the objects that were not the same color. They also learned how to sort objects with the same color.
For arts and crafts, we made Macaroni Bead Necklaces. First, the kids had to color the macaroni with the color of their desire. Then, we waited for about 30 minutes until they were dry. Then, we strung one piece of macaroni through the yarn, and we repeated the process. Then we tied the ends together. I hope you liked the necklaces they made.

I also introduced them to more new nursery rhymes this week. They are “Jack and Jill”, “Walking, Walking”,” Bluebird”, and “Clap Along with Me”

Individual comments:

Joyce’s listening ability has improved so much compared to a few weeks ago. I encouraged her to speak up and talk more during class time.

Christine has been calmer with her friends. She loves to play with Sunny and Theresa during recess.

Jae
is doing fine this week. She loves the story we read yesterday “Teeny Tiny Woman”.

Casper was a little moody on and off this week. He’s independent while doing his in class work. He’s now learning to use scissors properly.

Rain got into trouble many times this week mainly because he was mean towards his friends. He had a time out in the office for one day.

August gets too emotional quickly with little things. I encouraged him to speak for himself instead of crying. He might be less vocal than the other kids, but I’m sure that his English comprehension is fine. He might pretend not to understand a question, in order to escape from a feeling of guilt.

Jason is gradually learning to follow directions during class time. He gets more involved with moving activities such as Phonics games, songs, and story time. We are also working on how to use scissors properly.
