Dear parents,
We finally had some nice weather this week. Thursday morning, T. Cory’s class and the kangaroos chilled out at the park. We practiced catching, throwing, and bouncing balls. These activities helped the kids develop their hand-to- eye coordination, and their motor skills as well.

For math class, I introduced them to objects with either the color pink or gray. Flamingoes, grapefruits, pigs, ballet shoes, and erasers are pink; an
elephant, squirrels, rocks, mice, nails, and donkeys are gray. We also had to put an “x” on the objects that were not the same color. For phonics class, I introduced the letters “g” and “h”, and related words including: g – “g”- goat, goose, game, garden, and guitar. There are also five words they need to know for the “h” sound. H-“h” hand, hen, horse, hose, and hammer.

As for motor skills this week, we practiced how to draw number writing from 1- 5 and tracing numbers
. Numbers 2, 3, and 5 seem a little challenging for some kids. For arts and crafts this week, we made colorful butterflies with food dye colors. It was a very simple and fun project. First, we had to fold coffee filter papers like fans. Then, we dipped them into the dye colors. Next, we have to dry the paper filters. Last, we put the pipe cleaner in the middle and tightened them.
This week, we also learned a few new nursery rhymes. They are “Little Green Frog”, “The Mosquito”, “Jimmy Crack Corn”, and “Ring A-Round the Rosy”

We also read “My Feeling Book” & “Freddie’s Spahabbtitis” this week. The kids picked up some new words that describe feelings such as lonely, scary, cranky, dress up, stand on my head….and many more. They thought it was funny if someone wants to stay in a bathtub all day long.
Individual comments:

Leetrue cried so often this week. He cries if anyone touches him or cuts in front of him. I reminded him that he should speak up for himself; he should try and not let his emotions control him. Crying can’t solve any problem. Leetrue likes art class just like the others. He said he wants to bring his butterfly home for mommy.
Joyce enjoys morning exercises more now. She is quiet, but she participates during class time just like the other kids. I would also like to clarify my answer to a question her dad asked last Friday. In K1, teachers provide the kids with large volumes of reading. We read stories and rhymes to them frequently. By the end of the K1 year, they will be able to read words with short vowel sounds and some small words. We will have to make reading adjustments for those who are more advanced. (Example: More difficult reading books for advanced students)

Christine needs to try to go to bed earlier. She often comes to school late and loses her chances to learn new rhymes and song. Her relationship with the other kids is in progress.
Rain grasps new vocabulary words fast. He knows almost every new word that I teach. His learning behavior is fine, but he has problems with his social behavior. We are working to solve them.
Jae picks up on wrong behavior quickly from the others. The other day, some boys were running and shouting while I went to the bathroom to check on someone who was in the bathroom for a while. She was running with them too. She played with her sandals while I was reading a story. She is usually my model student in class, but I do correct her when she is misbehaving.
Jason ate slowly many times this week. He is nosy about what the other kids are doing. He forgets to eat or chew his food. He ends up being the last one in class to finish lunch.
Theresa imitates sounds very well. We were reading “My Feeling Book” the other day; she remembered the picture of a boy wearing a crown as “King”.

August is slowing changing his learning attitude. He now takes time to do his work instead of scribbling throughout. He now asks for clear directions, before we start a new assignment.
Casper is funny. He’s afraid to be the last one to finish his meal. Before snack time or lunch, he often asks me, “Teacher Angel. What’s for lunch?” I don’t have any other answer other than: “I don’t know.” So he sometimes guesses noodles, rice, cookies, or soup.
