Hello Everyone,
This week we were hard at work getting ready for Halloween next week. In Art class we made scary bats, in writing class we wrote stories about what everyone wants to be for Halloween, AND we put the finishing touches on the class decorations. All in all it was another fun week!
In Math class we continued doing addition. The kids are getting very good at adding. Next week we'll begin subtraction, so hopefully the kids will continue to make steady progress.
In Phonics we read a short story and had to answer a few questions based on the reading. We also learned more common words that are frequently used when reading....
In Reading we read "People in Communities" and re-read "The Farmer in the Hat" and "Helping Hands at 4-H ".
In Science class we continued learning about plants and the functions of plant parts. ( ie: what the roots do, what the stem is for, etc..)
In Tops we started unit 2 where we'll be learning about the park. We're learning how to read and spell new park words: sun, cloud, tree, squirrel, butterfly, seesaw, flower, ant, swing. Next week we'll start learning about prepositions along with the new vocabulary from this week.
And finally in Grammar class we learned more about nouns ( people, places, and things ).
Kyle has been doing really well in class. We had a lot of fun on Tuesday (when all the other kids were in Chinese) class making glue ghosts.
Estella is doing great in class. She gets along well with other students in class and is slowly becoming good friends with both Claire and Hanna.
Claire is doing an exceptional job in class. Not only is she an excellent worker, she's also has an excellent attitude and is extremely conscientious of all her classmates.
Hanna is always cooperative and happy in class.
Albert learns new vocabulary quickly and is also very helpful about clean-up work around the room.
Devon is becoming more independent and has shown more interest and enthusiasm for the things we do in class.
Rain has been hard-working and eager to excel in class. He's made excellent progress in math and also has done very well with his writing and phonics!
Irvin has a great sense of humor and also enjoys the stories we read in class.

October 16th
Hi everyone,
This week we continued doing 3 number addition in math class. I'm pleasantly surprised how well everyone is doing. I was sure the kids would struggle to understand the concept, but to my amazement they are all doing great! In reading we started the new story " The Farmer in the Hat" about a class that plans to put on a school play about Old MacDonald...We've also begun learning new vocabulary for each story and this week we learned the new words ( could, be, old, paper, and horse ) In addition to learning the spelling and meaning of each of the words, we also practiced writing sentences for each word. In Phonics we've been practicing fill in the blank sentences with words we've been learning ( does, our, then, about, other, where ) In Tops we're still studying ( I'm he's, she's, you're, we're ) This week we also started learning about adding S to plural nouns...boat=boats, bike=bikes. And finally in art class on Friday we made spiders for Halloween.
Albert, Devon, and Rain have all been very sensitive this week about playing with each other. Some days they all play together, and other days Rain and Devon won't want to play with Albert, or Albert and Devon won't want to play with Rain. I've talked to the three of them many times and tried to get them to understand that they can be friends with everyone...I hope they can start playing together better....
Claire is incredible at math! She's very talented at addition... not only is she very quick at doing her work, she's also always correct! I wish my math was as good as her's....
Estella is getting much faster at eating at lunch time. She was a little slow on Thursday but did pretty well the rest of the week. She's also doing great with her classwork. She's made steady improvements in reading, phonics, and math. Way to go, Estella!
Kyle made a great spider in art class. He was also very helpful decorating the classroom for Halloween this week.
Hanna did very good this week. She's been improving a lot in both phonics and reading!
Irvin had a nice birthday on Thursday. We surprised him when I sent him to the office to get some tape, and when he returned we pretended to sing the song " I Can Fly" but instead sang "Happy Birthday"

October
Hi everyone,
October is finally here, and Halloween is just around the corner. It's always an exciting time at Tree House and all the kids are getting excited!
In class this week we learned about doubles in math class ( 2+2+=4, 4+4=8, 6+6=12, etc...).
In phonics we learned about vowel sounds in the middle of words. The kids had to look at pictures and write the middle vowel sound for each word.
In Tops we've been learning about -ing verbs ( What's he/she doing? He's/She's reading, walking, studying, etc...)
In reading we started the second book of the year with the story " A Big Fish for Max ". It's a cute story about a boy who goes fishing but catches EVERYTHING but a fish; so finally his mother takes him to a fish shop and they buy a fish to take home and cook for dinner.
In art class this week we made Jack-o-lanterns for Halloween...All in all it was another fun filled week in the Polar Bear class!
Irvin was so excited to share his song with the class on Friday. He was very brave to sing the song in the front of the class...after he sang it, we all practiced reading the lyrics and singing the song together.
Claire made a wonderful Jack-o-lantern in art class on Friday!
Albert is still struggling in math class. He was having trouble with basic addition. I know he can do it, I just hope he can concentrate a little more when he's doing addition.
Kyle is very good at math. He's always one of the first to finish his work, always eager to volunteer, and always correct with his answers!
Devon was funny on Friday night at Fun Day, he was trying archery but the bow was bigger than him, so he needed help to hold it so he could shoot the arrows.
Hanna's hand writing is very good. She's always very focused when she writes and her words are always very neat and clear.
Estella did great in class this week. She's very good at math, reading, and phonics. She had a lot of fun on Friday when we practice the song that Irvin brought in for the class...She was very competitive and wanted to sing better than the boys.
Rain has been improving his phonics. He's getting very good at recognizing vowel sounds and is getting better at writing and reading words from sounding them out.

Hello everyone,
Another week has passed and we're now into the month of October. It's been another fun week for the Polar Bear class. In math class we did more work learning about different ways to add to 10 ( 2+_=10, 5+_=10, etc...). In science class we learned about plants and what plants need to survive ( sun, air, water ). In reading we reread the story " Get the Egg" and then read the new story " Animal Park". In phonics we began learning about vowel sounds A E I O U, as well as practicing words from sounding them out. In grammar we are still learning about writing sentences, and finally on Friday we did a craft for Moon Festival and talked about the stories behind it.
Estella has been eating much faster this week. She's also been doing very well in class. She's a very good reader, and she is always eager to read in class.
It's good to have Kyle back in class. We missed him when he was out sick. This week he seemed to be in good spirits. He's doing very well in class; I don't have anything new to add. He's always well behaved and he also does great in class!
Albert has been sleeping much more during nap time since he started sleeping away for the other boys. He's also been doing an exceptional job in class. His math has gotten much better, and he had a great time learning about plants in science class.
I talked to Irvin about the older kids in my afternoon buxibon class and hopefully he shouldn't feel worried about going into the classroom after 4pm. He was really happy on Thursday afternoon when we had the October birthday party....
Rain has been behaving much better this week. I'm very proud of how well he's been this week. He's doing well in reading and phonics, he's had a little trouble in math class though. We've been learning about different ways to add 2 numbers and get a sum of 10 ( example: 6+4=10, 5+5=10, 1+9=10 ) and he's had a little difficulty understanding the concept. We tried using counting cubes to assist, and he was able to understand the concept much better, so I think he's making progress...
Claire has been doing very well. She's been very attentive and eager to learn this week!
Hanna did a great job in phonics class this week. She knows all the beginning, middle, and ending phonic sounds, and she learns new sounds very quickly.
Devon did an excellent job in phonics class this week. His writing has gotten very good. I was surprised when he was able to write many of the words we were learning about on his own.
Nicole has been very good in class this week. She's been eating quickly, and sleeping during nap time. In addition, she's done a fantastic job in all her classes, especially reading and phonics.
