March 27th

Hi Everyone,
Welcome to another instalment of the weekly Panda blog. This week in math class we finished the time clocks we started last week, and began reviewing telling time. In phonics we started learning about long O ( bone, phone, stone, home, etc...) In reading class we've been re-reading stories from the past month. In Tops we continued studying prepositions and locations in and around the house. In science we talked about living and non living thigs. In PE we exercised and stretched. And finally in ESL we did some work in the workbook. All in all it's been a productive week! Oh, I forgot to mention that on Tuesday we had the Tree House Reading contest. All the kids did an excellent job!

Serena read a really hard story on Tuesday. I was very impressed how well she did. I know it wasn't easy...way to go, Serena.

Bonnie did very well in the reading contest as well. She read the story " No, David!". It was a big hit with all the kids.

Aston has been doing very well recently. He's done great in math, and picked up telling time very quickly. He's also doing much better in phonics. He's become much faster doing his work, and doesn't need assistance as much as before.

Kyle had fun exercising at the park on Friday. He ran, he jumped, he played. All in all I'd say it was a fun day.

Devon has been getting much better in class. As I've said before, his writing, phonics, and math are all improving dramatically! Way to go Devon!

Hank has adjusted nicely to being in the Panda class. He's had no trouble catching up with math, reading or phonics.

Albert has been doing great on his classwork. However, he's been getting into trouble a lot recently for talking when he's supposed to be quiet. I've tried talking to him, and he knows what he's doing is wrong, but he just loves to talk to his friends. Albert's a very good boy, and I hate seeing him get into trouble. I really hope he can try harder to follow directions and not talk when he's not supposed to.

I'm always at a loss for words each week when it's time to write about Irene. Irene always does well in class. She's a model student. She's always well behaved, and she also does an excellent job with her classwork. Each week she makes steady improvements, and is constantly trying harder to do better.

Eason's behavior has been much better recently. He's been much quieter in class, and he seems to be listening and following directions better as well.

Benson did great this week. He's making tremendous improvements in reading. Way to go Benson!

Phil is doing well. He's talking a little more in class and working hard on his other work as well.

March 20th

Happy Saint Patrick's Day!
The luck of the Irish were with us this week. On Monday afternoon we made leprechaun hats and paper leprechauns for art class. In the morning we finished reviewing shapes for math class.
On Tuesday we were fortunate for good weather as we went to Daan park to search for gold! The rolling hills of Daan were littered with leprechaun gold, and the kids were all lucky enough to take some home.
On Wednesday we started learning ( actually reviewing ) time. We studied time quite a bit last year, so all the kids did very well. In the afternoon we did ESL and read a funny story about a daddy bear who couldn't sleep, so everywhere he goes to find peace and quiet he's followed by the constant sounds of the night like a loud refrigerator, a clock, his loud son, his snoring wife, and several noisy birds.
On Thursday we spent the beginning of the morning catching up on some back work, and than later in the day we studied time again in math class. In the afternoon we did Tops and studied prepositions ( The cat is on the hat. The toy is under the table. The pencil is in the cup. )
On Friday morning we watched The Lion King with the Armadillo class in preparation for this years graduation show, and finally on Friday afternoon we did reading and work in the reading workbook.

Aston has been very well behaved this week. My guess is that it's because he has a "new girlfriend" ( according to Serena...hint..hint..hint... ) He's been very quiet and nervous around her all week.

Albert has been doing very well in class, but he's been a little naughty during nap time. He's been talking and playing with the other kids during nap time.

Kyle and Hank have been playing a lot recently. I think Kyle is very happy to have someone new to play with during the day. The two of them are starting to become very good friends.

Devon had fun on Tuesday at Daan Park. He seemed to really really enjoy looking for the gold coins.

Bonnie is doing good in class. She's slowly improving her reading skills, and is also doing much better in math class. Way to go, Bonnie!

Serena did very good this week. She's been very well behaved, and also eager to help out during the day.

Irene and Benson have made tremendous progress recently! Benson has especially tried harder to speak more, and he's also been volunteering more to read and answer questions. It's great to see the progress the two of them have made.

Phil hasn't brought back his reading homework in 5 weeks. I really hope he can bring both his reading book and writing book into class on Monday.

Eason did well this week. He's been very eager to read and answer questions during class.

Friday the 13th

This week we read " What Do Firefighters Do? " in reading class. The kids really enjoyed the story this week. After reading the story all the students drew their favorite things firefighters do...In Phonics class we started doing long U. In addition to long U, we also reviewed blended sounds and beginning, middle and ending sounds. In art class we finished painting the necklaces we made last week. In math class we worked on fractions, and for review we did counting 1-100, as well as addition and subtraction. Because of rain this week we weren't able to go to Daan park, so instead we went to the park near Tree House for PE class.

Aston has been doing very well this week. He's slowly making improvements with his reading. He's done especially well in math class. He struggled with addition but has picked up fractions very quickly.

Devon has started reading in class! I'm very proud of him!!!

Albert has been naughty this week. I've had to speak to him many times to quiet down in class and not talk when it is time to do work. Also on Friday I asked him if he brushed his teeth and he said yes, however, his cup and toothbrush were both dry.

Kyle was very good this week. He was well behave and hard working all week.

Bonnie has been doing well. She continues to improve her classwork, and has also been a huge help in class assisting the other kids when they need help.

Serena made a very nice necklace in art class this week. She's very creative!

Benson is doing great! He's starting to talk more, and he's also asking many questions and volunteering to answer questions much more frequently.

Eason has been trying harder to behave in class. He's seems more focused and aware of his behavior.

Phil has been talking more in class. He's also been trying much harder to read more in class.

Irene is doing very well. No complaints...Good job, Irene!

And finally...I'd like to welcome Hank to the Panda class. Hank comes to us from the Wolfpack. He's done an excellent job fitting in with the class, and all the kids are excited to have a new friend in the Panda class

Dear Parents,
We've had another fun week at Tree House. On Monday we started reading "Johnny Appleseed" and in math class we began learning about fractions ( 1/2. 1/3. 1/4 ). On Tuesday we learned about weather in science class. ( how clouds form, seasons, and the different types of precipitation ) On Wednesday we started learning about the long U sound, words like: tube, rule, suit, etc.. On Thursday we did Tops and learned about rooms and the objects in each room. We also practiced the question/answer pattern: Where's the sink? It's in the bathroom...
On Friday we made clay necklaces in art class.
