May 29th

Hi everyone,

Wel, it's been another busy week here at Tree House. Now that parent-teacher conferences are over we've been working even harder in class. In Phonics class we continued studying the -at sound as well as adding the new sound -it. Some popular -it words are ( sit, fit, hit, kit ) .

In math class we've been counting to 50. All the kids have been doing really well. So well in fact we'll probably have to start counting to 75 or 80. In social studies we've been talking about our home and family.... And in science class we talked about solids, liquids and gases.

Albert has really enjoyed cooking class. He's been doing really well with everything except wanting to get his hands dirty. Yesterday he didn't want to touch the tomatoes because they were "dirty".

Aston has been trying much harder this week. He seems more focused and willing to work on his own in class. Hopefully he'll keep up the good work.

Kyle, Ethan, Emily and Ethan have been playing together alot recently. It's nice to see the four of them getting along so well.

Devon continues to make improvements. He still struggles to remember the days of the week ( he says every day is Friday ) but his ABC's and counting have improved dramatically!

Ruby continues to do really well. She's been talking alot during social studies and has a lot to offer to class discussions.

Bonnie and Serena have done great this week as well. The two of them are always so silly, they make class fun for everyone!

And finally....we've missed Claire this week. Class is never the same without Claire. We look forward to seeing her later this week.

May 22nd

Hi Parents,

I'd like to thank everyone for taking the time to meet with me this week. All the kids have been doing really well and it's been nice discussing all the kid's progress with you.
In addition to parent-teacher meetings we've been studying the phonic sound -at in class. Some popular words with -at are ( cat, rat, bat, sat, etc...)
In math class we've been working hard on improving our counting skills. Most of the kids can count up to 50 without help but there are still a few kids lagging behind.
In social studies we learned about "our neighborhood" and everything in it...ie: post office, school, supermarket, restaurant, etc...
I'd like to thank everyone once again for coming to Tree House this week. It's been a pleasure meeting some of you for the first time and nice as well getting to talk with those of you I've spoken with in the past!

The Supermarket

Hello Parents!

We had a fun week this week. On Monday we continued to review both beginning and ending phonic sounds ( A-Z ). In Math class we practiced counting 1-50 in preparation for learning about money.
On Tuesday we learned about wood, metal and paper and their special properties in Science class. We learned that you can cut and hammer wood; make cups and bowls with clay and weld metal. What was even more fun for the kids was learning how to fold paper to make a paper airplane.
On Thursday we went to the supermarket. The kids each had $15 to spend on anything they wanted to buy at the store. Unfortunately everything was expensive so we had to buy candy. I think the kids were alright with that though.
On Friday we'll start learning about counting money in Math class and continue reviewing ABC's and phonics in Phonic class. If we have enough time I also hope to color a mural for our classroom.

The Supermarket....

Bonnie and Ethan were partners at the supermarket. Bonnie didn't want to buy candy and Ethan was looking to spend more money than he had. "Teacher, can I buy this? How 'bout this...or this?"

Leo and Claire were interested in all the food at the supermarket.

Albert was pretty goofy. He had fun and loved looking at the food in the snack aisle.

Ruby and Aston had fun as well...even though it doesn't look like it in the photo.

Kyle was very bright and observant. He knew many of English food names...especially in the fruit and vegetable aisle.

Emily was hungry...she couldn't wait to eat the food she bought at the store.

Serena was enthusiastic and excited about shopping at the supermarket.

Devon was doing ok until we got to the candy section of the supermarket, then he got really excited and couldn't wait to spend his $15.

Happy Mother's Day

Ahhh...After days of rain, the clouds have cleared and it's finally sunny. Hopefully the weather will stay nice for the weekend, especially on Mother's Day.

This week we did more review for phonics. The kids have been doing really well with begining and ending phonic sounds, but they still struggle a bit with middle sounds. We've been working on this in class and hopefully with a little extra work it won't be so difficult for them.

In math class we reviewed telling time by the hour ( ie: it's 6 o'clock ) and also started telling time by the half hour ( ie: it's 6:30 ).

And in art class we've been working on a special project I'm not able to discuss just yet....But I'm sure all the mothers will be happy.

Ruby picked up telling time very quickly. she's been doing really well!

Leo and Kyle have been playing a lot together. I think it's great that the two of them are becomming such close friends.

Aston has been behaving much better this week. He can be a really good boy when he sets his mind to it.

Devon has been doing really well in class. He's done exceptionally well in phonics. He always likes giving answers in class.

Albert has been getting into trouble again with Devon and Aston.

Emily has been doing really well in phonics class. She's really shown some noticeable improvements. Good job, Emily!

Bonnie and Serena had a fun time at the park this week. They always love playing on the monkey bars.

Ethan made a really nice craft in art class. His hard work and effort really showed.

Claire had a fun time during song and dance time. She really liked dancing and learning the new songs this week.

Candy.. Candy.. Candy

Hi Parents,
We had a pretty exciting week this week. On Monday we started learning about telling time. I think all the kids did a great job and they all seem to understand the basics pretty well.  In Phonics class we finally finished all our ABC's and have begun reviewing.
On Tuesday we had out field trip to the candy factory. Unfortunately it wasn't as exciting as it sounds. We all dressed up in our silly hair nets and protective booties and then had a tour of how they packaged the candy....no chocolate rivers, no edible trees, not even an ever-lasting-gobstopper; we did get to see boxes, a lot of boxes. We did get to try some cola flavored candy though which made the trip well worth it.
After the candy factory we headed up the road to the nature preserve for lunch, a nice walk and a movie about animals. All in all it was a fun day..I just wish we could have seen them make candy.
On Friday the weather was nice so we went to the park for P.E and learned about playing
T-ball. In the afternoon we had Art class and made "paper houses". It might have been a short week, but we had a lot of fun and were able to do quite a bit for such a short week....
