Penguin Parents,

Hello! I can't believe it's Friday already. I hope everyone had a nice
Peace Day.

This week we studied Yy in Phonics class. Some Yy words we learned were: yo-yo ( a class favorite ), yogurt, yes and yard. Most of the kids were able to write Y very well. The lowercase y was a little more troublesome. A lot of the students struggled to write it correctly, they all tried very hard though. We'll have to keep working on it, hopefully you can help the kids at home as well.

In Math class we continued studying measuring. The past two weeks we learned about measuring length and width, this week we started learning about the number of blocks that can fit into a shape.
We also practiced writing #'s 1-20. Many of the students still struggle writing 11-20. Hopefully with practice everyone will be able to improve their writing soon....

In Science class we studied the night sky and the difference between it and the daytime sky. ( moon v. sun, stars v. clouds,etc.. )

Claire has done well this week. Unfortunately, she has missed several math lessons and fallen behind. Hopefully she will be able to come earlier next week and catch up with the other students.

Aston was much faster eating snack and lunch this week. He was actually the first to finish on Wednesday!

Devon is doing an excellent job in Math class, especially with writing his #'s. He's able to write 1-20 without much help, and his penmanship is very clear and neat. Good job Devon!

Bonnie has adjusted to being in class. She's ALWAYS smiling and well behaved. She has a little trouble writing her #'s though.

Kyle's vocabulary continues to surprise me. He asked about tornadoes in Science class this week. His English vocabulary is very impressive.

Ruby has been a big help in class. She's usually very quick finishing her class work and she loves to assist the other kids that are a little bit slower in class.

Emily has been very good as usual. She's always sitting quietly and is usually the first to be ready for class. I wish all the kids could sit and follow directions as well as she does.

Albert had a great time reading story books this week. He also loved listening to "The Cat In The Hat". Albert's a very good reader!

The 28th was Derrick's birthday. We had a nice party for him on Wednesday and everyone loved eating cake. "Happy Birthday!!"

Serena has been early to class this week. Great job Serena!

After a short vacation, Ethan is back with us. Welcome back Ethan!!

Our First Week Together

Hi Everyone!

We've had a great first week together. This week we started X/x for phonics class. I'm very impressed with how well the kids are doing. Emily, Ruby, and Claire were all able to think of many X words.
In math class we continued measuring. Bonnie and Serena are doing great! Devon struggled a little bit last week, but I think he improved a lot this week! We also reviewed writing #'s 1-10.
Kyle and Derrick are adjusting well to class. They both settled in well, and you can hardly tell they are both new to Tree House. Kyle was getting sad during nap time earlier in the week, but over the past few days he's done much better! Usually new students are a little shy at first, but Derick is very confident. He speaks a little Chinese in class still, but the other students are quick to remind him to "speak English!"
Aston and Albert have had a lot of fun now that the weather is better. We've been playing outside during playtime and they both love playing with the cars. On Thursday the two of them drove around for almost an hour.

Happy Friday!

Hi Parents!

Happy Valentine's Day and Happy Birthday Bonnie and Ruby!

I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday!!! Our dearest Hanna and Rochelle has moved up to Teacher Cory's Hammerhead class. Bonnie from Teacher Jocelyn's Tiger cub class has moved into our penguin family, too. We are also very lucky to have two new boys in our class; Kyle and Derek.

We worked on our Phonics book, reviewing the previous lessons; Vv, Bb, Pp. In Math, we also learned how to measure; how to measure using cubes. We are currently learning how to measure and estimate. We also made two really cool crafts for Valentine's day; heart wreath and valentine's card.

Teacher Scott will be Penguin class' new teacher as of Monday!!! The kids really love him. The transition is going very smooth. He's been getting to know them at a more personal level, they're getting to know him as well! Aston keeps calling him Teacher Chad and Teacher Kelly!!!
My last day at TreeHouse is today, Friday!!! 3 semesters has flown by so quickly; I've been very blessed and lucky to have such wonderful children in my class!!! My baby will be due in July, so I'll have many chances to visit often!!! (For those of you who don't know; I'm 20 weeks pregnant and the doctor says that he doesn't know whether it's a boy or girl, yet. I'm secretly hoping for a girl!)

I'll miss them very much...

Have a great weekend,

Teacher Leanne

**please feel free to keep in touch and update me about your kids'... send me pictures... my email is chineseygirl@yahoo.com**

Hi Parents!
I'm Scott, the new Penguins Teacher. I've enjoyed meeting all the kids and I'm really looking forward to the new semester. Please feel free to let me know if you have any questions, comments or concerns. Hopefully I'll get a chance to speak with all of you soon!

Hi Parents!

What we've learned: Phonics; Vv, valentine, vase, vacuum, vegetables, van and violin. Math; reviewed counting and writing numbers through 31. We also did make-up pages from the Phonics and Math book.

We did some make up work from the Phonics and Math book. Most of them needed little or no help from me. They are familiar with the exercises and worked independently.

Aston has problems counting items past 10. He knows how to count past 10, but he's very lazy. I need to constantly pay attention to him while he counts, otherwise he doesn't count correctly or count at all. Emily, Ruby and Crystal have improved with counting items to 20. Claire, Hanna, Rochelle, Serena, Leo and Devon have no problems writing and counting numbers through 31. Albert can count items through 31, but because of his writing skills, he is not able to write numbers to 31. He is improving a lot, I have him do extra writing activies in class before he can play! Everyone's penmanship has improved so much over the semester!!!

The field trip on Monday was so much fun!!! The field trip was held at an educational activity center; they got to climb on ropes, play with musical instruments, wash and drive cars, play house and much more. I was very happy to see how healthy and nutritious their lunches were! By the time we got back to school, they were sound asleep!!!

Have a great weekend!!!
