Teacher Leanne is back

Hi, dear parents!
This week, we did a few extra classes in handwriting and motor skills. I let the kids try to write their names on the proper lines. They were struggling, but this was their first few tries. It was something new for them. Writing is hard for kids at their age.

We did shoes lacing on a plastic board; we have boards shaped like a bear, a cat and a duck. The kids practiced their motor skills on this board. They had to try to go up and down with the laces. Some kids whined for help, while others tried their best.

We made Halloween finger puppies for crafts. They each picked 3 figures and made their own crafts. They either made ghosts, jack-o-lanterns, vampires, witches, and monsters. They had so much fun cutting each puppy and designing them on their own.

In phonics class, they were introduced to more vocabulary words beginning with the letter K such as king, kite, kitten, kid. K is a difficult one for beginners to write. It was hard for them to judge which lines to write on, and how wide is the up and down strokes.

For story time, we read a lovely book called “I Will Love you Forever”. This story is about a mom and a son. Every night, Mom goes to her son’s room and sings a beautiful lullaby to him; he grows older and becomes a boy. She still sings to him at night, although sometimes he is very naughty. He grew older and then he became a teenager; then a man. She still sang to him every night. Until once day, she grew older and sick. She couldn’t sing or walk anymore…………..One day, her son came to her house at night when she was asleep. He sang the same beautiful lullaby to her. We all agreed that this is a beautiful story to share with our kids.

Rochelle had a short week this week. She went to Disneyland in Hong Kong with her relatives. I hope she had great fun! The only thing she struggled with was writing k. She sang so much and she had so much fun in class.

Devon had many emotional moments this week. First, Leo sat on his finger once. Then, some other day, Aston pushed him. He also had small problems while we were practicing shoe lacing.
Hanna had some trouble with her stomach last couple days. Now she is pretty much recovered .She was so exciting when I read the post card that T. Teacher Leanne sent from Italy.

Leo sometimes whines for help but I usually encourage him to try once more. He would try harder. He needs work on his penmanship and motor skills. Leo is very happy and outgoing among his peers.

Crystal had some difficulties writing the letter Kk. She didn’t know which lines to write on. She likes art class so much. She is also selective with using many colors and combinations. She tries hard to come to school before 9 this week.

Ethan had a good week just like others. He’s proud to be in big kids’ class. He eats some green vegetables now. I was so shocked that he fell asleep on Wednesday. I would like encourage him to come to school early everyday. It would also help him to get used to our class routines. He would also have more time to play with his friends.

Serena loves to sing Halloween chants just like other girls. She especially loves the “Trick or Treat” most. She has been eating slow last week, I’m not sure if she has breakfast at home or not. She knows her phonics well and always read along with her finger.

Claire cried for a few days in the morning. She is usually very brave but I guess it’s the “morning symptom” that kids have. She is usually fine in 10 minutes. She loves to correct Devon and Aston when they are misbehaving. She has clear concepts in math and good motor skills.

Boo! Halloween

Hi, there!
We got a new stereo from Teacher Paul this week. We enjoy having music any time that we want. The kids love the “Sunday” song so much. “Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday…………………. Oh! Happy day….”

Halloween is coming within two weeks. All of us can’t wait for Halloween to come sooner. Beside “Trick or Treating” and a “Scary Maze”, we decorated our class room with trick or treat bags and other stuff related to Halloween. We learned so many chants and rhymes. They are “Five Little Pumpkins”, “Ten Little Pumpkins”, and many more.

In Science class, we talked about the parts of plant. We also discovered the life cycles of plants. They start as seeds, and then grow roots, stems, flowers and fruits. Then they start again in the cycle as seeds. They love my story about apples that grow in the apple trees. We also reviewed our senses.

In Phonics, we finished our phonic books, and we went through many other words such as man, mop, map, milk, muffin, and mitten. And moved on letter Kk as in kitten, kite, king, key and kiss

Math classes were also fun as well. We introduced some new concepts for patterns. If there is one bird going to join this group of birds… Should it fly up or down? We read a story about “Learning Patterns”.

For reading, we read “Can Pig Nap?” We reviewed the phonic sounds –AN and -AP…. Also we introduced –AT, AS, MAT, and CAT. Almost all of them did well, but there were a few slower ones. The Kids should follow along with their fingers while they are reading.

Serena finally returned to the Penguin class after disappearing for one month. She had an operation on her eyes. Sometimes, I still see her not focusing. Serena usually comes to school later so she can’t nap during nap time. She is so happy to see her friends again. She is very active while we are singing and dancing. Now, her best friends are Claire, Hanna and Ruby.

Devon likes to work independently, but sometimes he whines for nothing. I also notice he has a set of colors he likes the most. He loves green. Devon has no problem with drinking water. But, I need to constantly remind him, otherwise he forgets. He is so outspoken than he was months ago. I couldn’t help it but to take pictures for him when I had camera in hand.
Ruby loves to sing and dance along with Hanna and Rochelle. Ruby is catching up on her phonics with the others. Ruby likes to play with girls, especially her buddy, Hanna. She copies whatever she does.

Aston likes to draw, but he’s a bit lazy sometimes. Aston likes to share stories when other kids are doing the same. Aston has a short attention span. I pay special attention to him when we have reading class. Now, he eats on his own; sometimes he’s a little too slow if he’s picky with his food. He remembers to wash his hands all the time with soap. But, I caught him many times when he wipes his wet hands on his pants.

Rochelle loves to smile. She’s also very photo genetic. She makes poses when she sees a camera. She likes to help the young ones. The other day, while we were doing crafts, she volunteered to help Devon to cut. I think that she helps mommy at home as well.

Crystal loves to participate in class. In the mornings, I don’t force her to drink too much water; otherwise, she will have accidents during nap time. Crystal is self-disciplined. She knows when and what to do in a certain situation. She is also one of the best behaved students, along with Rochelle and Claire. I wish she could come to school earlier than 9 o’clock.

Claire had a problem in the morning 2 times in the row this week. Claire is really smart with her unique personality, unlike the other kids. She had a hard time writing capital M and small M. She raises her hand to answer questions whenever she wants to. She needs to try to come to school before 9 o’clock as well.

Hanna learns new things so quickly. She usually pays attention during class, but sometimes she acts like a clown. She remembers most of the new Halloween chants and rhymes we went through during the week.

Leo is very selective of the colors he uses. He works hard for me no matter what he does. He pays attention just like the other kids. But, he forgets to read along with his fingers. He eats lots of veggies without being picky on food. I reminded him to come to school before 9 o’clock.

Have a Happy Honeymoon, Teacher Leanne!!!

Hi, there!

This is T. Angel I am taking over T. Leanne’s class till the 19th of this month. I will make sure kids have lots of fun while they are learning.

We had a busy week while T. Leanne was gone. We started with Halloween craft. They love doing crafts. We spent a total of two hours to finish our “Halloween Pumping Masks”. Look at them! Aren’t they cool?

In Phonics, we finished the letter Mm. The vocabulary words for the letter Mm are – money, mouse, map, mop and milk. Most of them did well learning the new vocabulary words. Mm is more wavy and curvy, so they had somedifficulties.

Science class; we learned a simple diagram for plants. There are roots, the stem, flowers and leaves. They need strong roots to stay up, just like our feet. They also need the stems to grow like our bodies. They need water, air, and sunlight just like us to make their own food.

We worked on our reading activity books together. So, throughout the week, we reviewed ordinal numbers like first, second and third; also left, right, top, middle, and bottom. I gave them many examples on the board, and taught them a few tricks about how to remember left and right… such as I use my left hand to make an “L”; I write with my right hand.

For reading, we read “Can Pig Nap?” We reviewed phonogram –at, -ap, a….such as nap, tap, mat, and lap. They grasped these sounds so well, while we played games..

We also talked about the coming Halloween. They seem better than the younger kids in T. Jocelyn’s class. They like the new rhyme we learned “Five Little Pumpkins “and “The Wicked Witch “song.

Ruby eats well and remembers to drink lots of water. She has good eating habits. She is also a quick learner. She is also very curious about new things.

Aston still spaces out sometimes. Nowadays, he tries to eat by himself but he is very picky with food. If there is sometimes he likes more, he eats it first. He loves to share stories of his brother Dylan. He is also improving his penmanship and other motor skills.

Crystal has a very independent personality. She also likes to compete with other kids to be “Number 1”. She eats well and likes to play with other kids in class. Rochelle loves to participate in class. She has been so amazing since last week. She stopped crying in the mornings and always smiles when she comes to school. This is such a great improvement. She picks up new things fast and repeats well all the time.

Devon surprised me the most! He is so talkative. He now can say words with 3 syllables. He can color as well as others. As far as his motor skills go, he can cut straight line or curved lines now. ]

Claire is cute. When I ask questions she always answers with confidence. She once told me “If you eat seeds from apples, you will need to go to the doctor”

Hanna was a little down when she realized that T. Leanne had gone to Europe. She likes to be the center of attention. She is the queen of this class… everyone follows whatever she does.

Leo improved so much. He raises his hand and waits for his turn to talk. He expresses himself in English all the time. He has some difficulties with the k, g, and j sounds.
